Creative Community: Irrelephant

As a seventh edition of my Creative Community blog series, I’d like to introduce you to two ladies who need no introduction Molly Stilley and Joanna Ballentine of Irrelephant.

Molly and Joanna are fun friends and wonderful people. They also happen to have diverse talents and knock out tremendous creative work. Irrelephant is one of my favorite blogs out there. For a personal tidbit, Joanna and Molly were neighbors at a previous home, and now, Molly is my neighbor again (next door)!

I recently had the opportunity to shadow, photograph and talk with them while they were creating a new post. Here are some fun, humorous and helpful thoughts from Molly and Joanna…

1. What drew you into this/why do you love it?

It first started started out by us needing a creative outlet. We were desperate for something bigger. We eventually grew to appreciate not only the creative fulfillment but also the relationships we’ve been able to develop.

We love pursuing Irrelephant because we have the luxury to explore other crafts- not only Hair and Make up. We can push ourselves in ways we’ve never have before. From the beginning we decided that whether our ideas succeed or fail, we still want to share it. Just want to keep our work true and honest. Here is a quote we try to live by:

“I have not failed, I have just found 10,000 ways that don’t work.” -Albert Einstein

2. How do you gain creative inspiration?

Lets be honest… We really wish we had a cool creative way that we come up with a post- like sitting out in our backyard while the sun goes down and meditate on the what the world needs to hear.

But in all reality- we look at each other, blankly…then we look around the house… and then one of us say “I need new pillows” “LETS DO A PILLOW POST!” Another example: “my nails look horrible”….”LETS DO A NAIL POST!”

We have learned a lot in the past year, and we’re still learning. Blogging requires a lot of detail and collaboration. Each post we do requires a deep routine, checked by the both of us. Making sure each photo is of our aesthetic, and our words are cohesive within each post. The details show the care you’ve taken with each post. As far as collaboration- we love getting emails from readers and other bloggers- we want people to know that networking is key in this industry. So please, shoot us an email! We love to learn from other people’s craft!
